Ever since I started working at the company I'm currently at, the computer I've been using has had no working sound, so I took it upon myself to try and find out what the problem is. I get the message 'There are no active mixer devices available' when I try to open the volume control, and the device volume via the control panel is greyed out.
No one knows where the computer came from or what make it is, so I DL'ed AIDA32. According to that, the onboard 'audio adapter' is an SiS 7012 Audio Device. I've tried to install the latest drivers (dl'ed from 2 seperate sites, SiS's site and a 3rd party site), but I get an error message when the driver starts to install. '-536870397' followed by 'Fail to install audio driver for XP'. There is also no apparent listing in the device manager for an SiS 7012 Audio Device. At least, not one that is obvious. The closest I can see is 'Multimedia Audio Controller' which has no drivers installed for it, apparently. One fix I have tried so far is to run 'services.msc', but the Windows Audio Service was already running. Restarted the service anyways, to no effect. I have seen a couple of other possible fixes on youtube tutorials, but I'll be damned if I'm going to DL and run executables from personal sites linked in youtube videos.

Pages : <1 | 2 | 3> Toshiba Satellite A100 VA3 / PSAANC-VA305C Intel Pentium Dual Core. This machine came with Vista Home Premium but crashed for some reason and I couldn't restore Vista even using the neosmart recovery disc and the Toshiba recovery discs.Toshiba doesn't ship the OS disc and Staples/Office Depot wanted eighty bucks to install an operating system that we have paid for twice now. I wiped the hard drive of partitions and installed XP Pro. The machine works better than it ever did except now I have no sound. It tells me that there is no active mixer installed. Tried to download WMP11 and it keeps saying it was not installed properly. Downloaded WinAmp and still nothing. All I can find in device manager under Sound, video and game controllers is: MicrosoftAudio Codecs Legacy audio drivers Legacy Video Capture devices Media control devices Video Codecs All of which say 'This device is working properly.' Tried downloading audio drivers from Toshiba and on install it say's there is nothing to install them in. I'm getting to the point where I'll re-boot it with a pair of size 12 Doc Martins. Thank you in advance. Greg Related Articles
Windows XP communicates with the hardware in your computer through device drivers, computer programs that act as middle-men between the operating system and the motherboard and its connected components. Windows XP uses the device driver for the sound card to record audio via microphone and output sound through speakers or headphones. If the OS stops recording and playing back sound, or if the audio quality that the computer outputs is poor, reinstall the sound driver as a troubleshooting step.
1.
Click 'Start | Control Panel | Performance and Maintenance | System | Hardware | Device Manager.'
2.
Double-click 'Sound, Video and Game Controllers.' Double-click the audio driver to find the name and manufacturer of the sound device.
3.
Go to the device manufacturer's website and look up the device model. Download the latest device driver for Windows XP.
4.
Return to Device Manager. Click the Driver tab and then click 'Uninstall.' Follow the on-screen prompts to remove the old driver.
5.
Navigate to the folder containing the latest sound driver. Double-click the file to launch setup.
6.
Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver to Windows XP. Reboot the computer, if prompted, once installation completes.

Sometimes when using Microsoft’s Windows XP operating system, the sound will stop working. You won’t hear anything coming out of the speakers, and when you try to bring up the volume control, it refuses to open. The computer will then give you the following error message: 'There are no active mixer devices available.' If you have been told to install a particular device and you don’t know what the computer is referring to, it turns out the complication is with a piece of software that is supposed to run in conjunction with your sound card. For some reason, Windows Audio Service gets turned off, and the solution is simply to get the computer running this program again.
Click the Start button in the lower-left corner of your computer screen. On the Start menu, select Run. A command screen should pop up.
In the command line, type the following: “services.msc” and press Enter. The services window should now appear with programs listed in alphabetical order.
Look down the page, and select “Windows Audio” and press Enter.
In the new window, you will see an option for “Startup Type.” Be sure this is set to Automatic. Gopal bajaj bhajan mp3 songspk download.
Under “Startup Type,” you will see the line “Service Status.” Click the Start button.
Restart the computer, and the sound should be working again.
If this did not fix the problem, there might be another program turned off that also needs to be running. The following programs may need to be started to allow the Windows Audio Service to function properly: Plug and Play, Windows Audio Endpoint Builder, DCOM Server Process Launcher, Remote Procedure Call (RPC), and Multimedia Class Scheduler. Go back and first make sure all of these programs are also running. To do this, repeat the steps listed for the Windows Audio Service for all the programs mentioned, and then restart the computer.
Tips
There is always the chance that you have a virus. Keep your antivirus program updated, and run a system check.
